Regarding Equipment and Training Recommendations
Share
Our equipment features a front-end cushioning design, allowing for the use of lighter protective gear in sparring training, such as fencing masks and chest protectors (available for purchase in our store). We also offer genuine leather motorcycle riding gloves, designed with knuckle guards and forearm protection. While they cannot completely eliminate impact, they still provide a certain level of protection. For higher levels of protection, we recommend HEMA-specific gloves with additional padding and shells. We strongly discourage the use of unpadded or unshelled gloves, as this significantly increases the risk of injury.
We do not recommend engaging in sparring training without protective gear under any circumstances. Even with controlled force, participants should, at a minimum, wear a helmet to safeguard vulnerable areas like the head and eyes.
For training with minimal equipment, we suggest reducing the speed to a lower level. For example, if the dojo's full-speed sparring is rated at 10, the speed for minimally equipped training should be limited to 5-6, or roughly equal to less than half of the maximum speed. This reduced speed not only minimizes the risk of injury but also effectively extends the lifespan of the equipment.
Safety is the foremost priority in sparring training. Choosing the right protective gear and maintaining an appropriate training speed will not only ensure personal safety but also prolong the life of your equipment, enhancing the overall quality and effectiveness of your practice. We hope all participants can enjoy sparring in a safe environment while steadily improving their skills.
